South Carolina CDL Requirements


In South Carolina, your local DMV and the DMV website have information on CDL class licenses, endorsements, restrictions and more. For all the commercial driving information you need, pick up a Commercials Drivers Manual from your DMV or request that one is sent to you.

There are several requirements you must meet to secure your CDL, they include: being at least 18 years old to drive within the state, passing a medical exam according to federal guidelines and passing a written and skills test.

You may also apply the following endorsements to a CDL:

  • H - Hazardous Material (Hazmat)
  • N - Tanker Vehicle
  • P - Bus Passenger
  • S - School Bus
  • T - Double/Triple Trailers
  • X - Combination Hazmat and Tanker
