Indiana CDL Requirements

Indiana CDL certifications are available to anyone 18 and over who can pass a written exam and a 3-part driving skills test.

The Indiana CDL certification is valid for 4 years, but should be renewed within one year of expiration, so you don't need to take all written and driving skills tests once again.

After you've passed all the necessary written tests, show your driver's license, proof of Social Security number, and physical examination form to the clerk at the license agency, you are qualified to receive a CDL certification. The cost of the CDL license in Indiana is:

- Standard CDL: $30
- CDL learner's permit: $6

Note: A CDL is not needed to legally operate farm equipment, emergency and rescue vehicles, fire trucks, or military vehicles. These all have specific operator certifications you can obtain.
