In order to obtain your Alaska Commercial Driver’s License, you must be at least 19 years of age, and at least 21 if you plan to transport hazardous materials, drive double or triple trailer rigs, or drive commercially outside the state of Alaska. You must also have a valid Alaska driver’s license and pass road, vision and written tests, as well as have a valid medical card.

Upon application for your CDL, you’ll be asked to pass a written general knowledge test and a knowledge test for any specific vehicle types you’re planning to operate. You’ll then take a skills test that covers vehicle inspection, basic skills and driving.
